Establish and maintain a process that enables students, families, neighbors, businesses, and organizations to make postsecondary education possible for all students in the Hillcrest-Marlow Heights Community.  Develop and expand a pool of resources in the community to generate funds, distribute scholarship aid, recognize students' achievements, and promote awareness and cohesion among neighbors in the Hillcrest-Marlow Heights Community.   

 


 

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Established Scholarship Awards Program in 1988 with an all-volunteer staff.
  • Distributed scholarship awards annually with a recognition ceremony for students, families, and friends (1988 through to the present day).
  • Organized various ongoing fundraising initiatives; scholarship dinner dances, donation and gift campaigns, bus trips, promotional item sales, and other fundraisers.
  • Promoted scholarship award program in the Hillcrest-Marlow Heights Community through local newspapers, community bulletin boards, church bulletins, Civic Association materials, and other media to encourage participation and support for students pursuing postsecondary education.
  • Earned credibility for the scholarship program through a well-established application/distribution/awards process, handling and control of donations, and financial matters.
  • Obtained participation and support from Congressional Representative (4th Dist. Maryland), State Senators and Delegates (24th, 25th, 26th Dist. Maryland), Prince George County Officials, and County Council Members (7th & 8th Dist).
  • Established relationships with Community Partners/Sponsors for support of the scholarship fund.
  • Met requirements to become a "Dollars for Scholars®" affiliate Chapter under Scholarship America in 2010. 
  • Hillcrest-Marlow Heights Civic Association Dollars for Scholars selected as a 2014 Regional Affiliate of the Year.  This recognition came with a $1,000 award and national recognition through the Scholarship America® publication. 

  • Scholarships have been awarded to 598 students totaling over $969,800 since its inception.
